[Luke 21:11-12 ESV] 11 There will be great earthquakes, and in various places famines and pestilences. And there will be terrors and great signs (unusual occurrences, transcending the common course of nature) from heaven. 12 But before all this they will lay their hands on you and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues and prisons, and you will be brought before kings and governors for my name’s sake.
Only Luke’s account includes “great signs from heaven” among the signs of the nearness of Christ’s return. In recent decades, people have reported seeing such things (i.e., UFOs and their associated phenomena), but the great majority of people have not seen or experienced them. On the other hand, world wars, famines, pestilence, and earthquakes are common knowledge to all. Perhaps there is a partial fulfillment in the man-made phenomena seen in space: the space probes, moon landings, orbiting satellites, space platforms, and even the great radio telescopes searching for signals from the stars. At this point in time, we can hardly be dogmatic, but I tend to believe that the sightings and manifestations of so-called aliens are not all hoaxes but are associated with the demonic supernatural world.
Since I have not had a UFO experience, nor do I know anyone personally who has, my comments should be taken as simple conjecture. However, I have several opinions.
Opinion #1: I think some things God simply hasn’t revealed to us.
[Deuteronomy 29:29 NIV] The secret things belong to the LORD our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law.
I am far less concerned about what I don’t know compared to what I do know from God’s Word and the radical need for me to obey it!
However, I do believe that as we move closer to the time of the Lord Jesus Christ’s return, God will give us more information about a variety of things. For sure, this includes certain predictive elements of prophecy. This is one of the reasons why we must always be vigilant and alert, attempting to decipher what God reveals.
[1 Thessalonians 5:6 NLT] 6 So be on your guard, not asleep like the others. Stay alert and be clearheaded.
[Matthew 16:3 AMP] 3 “And in the morning, ‘It will be stormy today, for the sky is red and has a threatening look.’ You know how to interpret the appearance of the sky, but cannot interpret the signs of the times?”
Opinion #2: I believe that how one explains or interprets these UFO and alien phenomena reveals a person’s worldview.
A Pagan Worldview
Viewing these phenomena through a secular lens.
[1 Corinthians 3:18-20 AMP] 18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool [discarding his worldly pretensions and acknowledging his lack of wisdom], so that he may become [truly] wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness (absurdity, stupidity) before God; for it is written [in Scripture], “[He is] THE ONE WHO CATCHES THE WISE and CLEVER IN THEIR CRAFTINESS;” 20 and again, “THE LORD KNOWS THE THOUGHTS of the [humanly] wise, THAT THEY ARE USELESS.”
My understanding is that Steven Spielberg believes his latest extraterrestrial movie, Disclosure Day (May 2026), will undermine the faith of Christians. I personally believe a biblically solid follower of Christ will not have their faith undermined. After all, we are children of the light.
[Ephesians 5:8 ESV] “…for at one time you were darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
Clearly, Spielberg’s premise would support a secular (pagan) mindset in interpreting the events of UFO sightings. It seems there is a fixation and a driving force in the secular culture to find life on other planets. I think this is rooted in the reality that people do not want to face a personal, holy God to whom they could be held accountable. From my limited understanding, the aliens make no moral demands on their captives but have, in some cases, performed experiments that are sinister.
A Biblically Based Worldview
Viewing these phenomena through the Scriptural mind.
[Jeremiah 10:2 ESV] 2 Thus says the LORD: “Learn not the way of the nations, nor be dismayed at the signs of the heavens because the nations are dismayed at them,
Judah was warned not to adopt the practices of the nations, and we know that one of Satan’s functions is to deceive the nations (Revelation 20:3).
[Psalm 119:104 KJV] 104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
Being immersed in obedience to God’s Holy Writ allows us not only to grasp God’s truth but also to discern what is true.
[1 Corinthians 2:15-16 AMP] 15 But the spiritual man [the spiritually mature Christian] judges all things [questions, examines and applies what the Holy Spirit reveals], yet is himself judged by no one [the unbeliever cannot judge and understand the believer’s spiritual nature]. 16 For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND and PURPOSES OF THE LORD, SO AS TO INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ [to be guided by His thoughts and purposes].
Discernment is understanding the difference between what is true and what is almost true.
As biblically based followers of Christ who believe and understand the Sacred Scripture, we know God created this world, and He has given us no indication that other alien-type creatures exist in the universe. However, the Bible specifically describes a supernatural world of demonic beings commissioned by Satan (Matthew 25:41).
[Ephesians 6:11-12 AMP] 11 Put on the full armor of God [for His precepts are like the splendid armor of a heavily armed soldier], so that you may be able to [successfully] stand up against all the schemes and the strategies and the deceits of the devil. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood [contending only with physical opponents], but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this [present] darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly (supernatural) places.
There are also righteous angels who function as God’s emissaries (Hebrews 1:7; 13:2) and who will assist Christ (Matthew 13:41; 2 Timothy 1:7).
Opinion #3
[2 Corinthians 11:14 ESV] 14 And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.
From my perspective, these sightings of UFOs are indicative of some of the manifestations of that hidden spiritual world. We know that at times Satan “masquerades” (NIV) as an angel of light. In context, Paul was addressing the issue of false teachers disguising themselves as God’s emissaries. However, the verse has broad application to a variety of experiences and expressions pertaining to the cosmic forces influencing our world.
I believe these are manifestations of fallen angels whose goal is to deceive people.
[Genesis 6:1-2 NASB95] 1 Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land, and daughters were born to them, 2 that the sons of God (fallen demonic beings) saw that the daughters of men were beautiful; and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.
In Genesis 6, the “sons of God” were demonic beings who possessed men who impregnated women. The intent of the writer of Genesis 6 (probably Noah) was clearly to introduce a monstrous irruption of demonic forces on the earth, leading to universal corruption and eventual judgment. By this time in history, anarchism and amorality were so widespread that these demons were easily able to take possession of the bodies of multitudes of ungodly men; these men in turn engaged in promiscuous sex with demon-possessed women, resulting in rapid population growth. Perhaps Satan was anticipating generating a vast army of human recruits for his rebellion, hoping to thwart the coming of God’s promised Seed by corrupting all flesh.
The NLT is a little clearer:
[Genesis 6:4-5 NLT] 4 In those days, and for some time after, giant Nephilites lived on the earth, for whenever the sons of God had intercourse with women, they gave birth to children who became the heroes and famous warriors of ancient times. 5 The LORD observed the extent of human wickedness on the earth, and he saw that everything they thought or imagined was consistently and totally evil.
With the government’s disclosure of UFO sightings and alien encounters, it will become more important for those who name the Name of Jesus Christ to provide biblical insight, clarification, and illumination regarding these findings. We also know that some who profess Christ are not grounded in His Holy Word, and probably never were Christians but are more likely “tares” (Matthew 13:36ff). They will fall away from the Faith because they will give their loyalty or attention to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1). Oh my, this is sobering and somewhat staggering—to realize there are people disguised as followers of Christ who are really pretenders (Psalm 26:4 LSB), and their true colors come out when they end up adhering to such heretical doctrines.
Please contemplate these verses below!
[Psalm 26:4 LSB] 4 I do not sit with worthless men, And I will not go with pretenders (hypocrites, the deceitful).
[1 Timothy 4:1 ESV] 1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons,
[1 Timothy 4:16 NIV] 16 Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.
