“Let us run with patience the race that is set before us.” – Hebrews 12:1 KJV
Patience is the companion of wisdom.
There is no denying that SO many good things in life come to us through patience. For the believer in Jesus Christ this is especially true. Why? Because patient endurance is one of God’s most often used keys to our growth and development. As we bear up under the trials which God allows into our lives, our faith (which is good and much more valuable than anything, 1 Peter 1:7) has a chance to grow and flourish! Patience then yields a beautiful reward in due time. As Paul tells the Galatians: “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” – Galatians 6:9 NLT
In addition, wisdom leads us to patiently cooperate with the Holy Spirit as He brings about transformation in our lives. In our quick fix society, disciples of Jesus must commit to living lives of patient continuance in the faith. Following Christ, as Eugene Peterson so perfectly said, is a long obedience in the same direction.
So, where do you most need patience today? In a relationship? Your occupation? In the midst of a trial? With your kids, or in an area of personal development?
Ask the Lord for His wisdom and patience and bank upon this promise: “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” – James 1:5 NLT
