According to the Scriptures there were three types of kings in Israel. The faithful kings, the fraudulent kings, and the flawed kings. When voting for the next President of the United States, it is important to understand these distinctions as revealed in the Bible.
Righteousness is defined in Scripture as the consistent pattern of doing right and wise actions according to God’s standards. Which President, or Political Party, will make the most wise decisions that are closest to the Bible?
Choose Wisely!
Four germane comments about elections:
- Don’t vote according to “Looks” or “Personality.”
“…The LORD doesn’t see things the way you see them. People judge by outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.” – 1 Samuel 16:7 NLT
- Policies are more important than personalities or what candidates say.
“They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works.” – Titus 1:16 ESV
- No candidate is totally pure, or will align perfectly with the Bible. Please do not be a one issue voter.
“All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” – Romans 3:12 NIV
- Vote with wisdom (sound rational judgments) as close to biblical truth as possible. Not your emotions, compassion, or feelings. The Bible emphasizes people’s actions above their feelings. Righteous actions shape correct feelings.
“Appoint judges and officials for each of your tribes in every town the LORD your God is giving you, and they shall judge the people fairly.” – Deuteronomy 16:18 NIV
I first I heard of these three types of Kings in a sermon by Josh Howerton of Lakepoint Church from Dallas, Texas. It was excellent! I have added additional information and Scripture. Please take time to watch.
FAITHFUL KINGS–JOSIAH
Faithfulness is the consistent acts of doing the right thing both personally and in society.
Examples germane to America: a society that benefits economically, morally, academically, with limited governmental control. Freedom of expression, capitalism that promotes the generation of wealth, limited inflation by reducing government spending, and value for the life of the unborn.
“So Josiah removed all detestable idols from the entire land of Israel and required everyone to worship the LORD their God. And throughout the rest of his lifetime, they did not turn away from the LORD, the God of their ancestors.” – 2 Chronicles 34:33 NLT
FRAUDLENT KINGS– Ahab
Being fraudulent is doing wrong while also deceiving.
Detrimental examples related to America:
•not limiting dependance on the state
• the printing of money- called economic easing
• inflation primarily because of government overspending
• national security—appeasement, rather than peace through strength
• defunding the police is not a political issue, it is rational issue
• where hard work is not rewarded corruption flourishes
“There was never anyone like Ahab, who sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD, urged on by Jezebel his wife.” – 1 Kings 21:25 NIV
FLAWED KINGS—Solomon, Jehu
These leaders make some good and bad decisions. Flawed means to make errors, both personally and societally.
Examples:
“So Jehu destroyed Baal worship in Israel. 29 However, he did not turn away from the sins of Jeroboam son of Nebat, which he had caused Israel to commit–the worship of the golden calves at Bethel and Dan.” – 2Kings 10:28-29 NIV
“In Solomon’s old age, they [his many wives] turned his heart to worship other gods instead of being completely faithful to the LORD his God, as his father, David, had been.” – 1 Kings 11:4 NLT
A few Comments:
• Make your decision on policies not personalities.
• Forgiveness for past sins ought to be considered.
• No other decision you make is based on perfection.
• Which candidate will advocate for righteousness?
God uses flawed people like you and me
