“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 7:21 NIV
The context of Jesus’ sobering words in this verse finds the Lord speaking to the masses at the end of His great Sermon on the Mount. In verses 24-27 Jesus speaks to the necessity of obedience. Many houses look the same on the outside, yet their foundations prove their durability. Genuine faith always places God in the supreme position of authority in one’s life. He is the Lord, there is none other (Isaiah 45:5). Simple obedience is what Jesus is after in your life today. Why? Because obedience is the truest evidence of saving faith, and of a right relationship with God.
Today, may we each hold the mirror of God’s Word up to our lives. If we believe, then we will obey His voice today. We don’t need to seek after miracles or radical experiences as much as we need to walk humbly and obediently before our Lord.
How is Jesus asking you to be obedient to Him today? Is He leading you to an important decision within business where you must act in integrity? Are you skirting around a difficult conversation that you know must take place? Whatever the issue, remember that you will never regret obeying God.
In Christ,
Dale
