WIVES: YOUR HUSBAND CAN’T DO WITHOUT PHYSICAL INTIMACY
“3 The husband should fulfill his wife’s sexual needs, and the wife should fulfill her husband’s [sexual needs]. 4 The wife gives authority over her body to her husband, and the husband gives authority over his body to his wife. 5 Do not deprive each other of sexual relations, unless you both agree to refrain from sexual intimacy for a limited time so you can give yourselves more completely to prayer. Afterward, you should come together again so that Satan won’t be able to tempt you because of your lack of self-control.” – 1 Corinthians 7:3 NLT
“The typical wife doesn’t understand her husband’s deep need for sex anymore than the typical husband understands his wife’s deep need for affection.” His Needs, Her Needs, p.43
The passage in 1 Corinthians 7: 3-5 is one of the most overlooked passages about marriage in the American Church. The one need a man CANNOT legitimately and morally have met outside of marriage is physical intimacy. Behind the closed doors of the home I have discovered from many years of pastoring that Christian women neglect their husbands sexually or put them on a minimal diet. Obviously their needs to be mutual understanding between the husband and wife, but notice that the passage is strong for it says that that each of them have a “duty” to fulfill each other’s needs. “The husband should fulfill his marital duty to his wife, and likewise the wife to her husband” – 1 Cor. 7:3 NIV
When a wife refuses to give sexual pleasure to her husband she is setting him up for an affair, pornography, and other sexual temptations. Of course, the man is wrong if he commits such immoral actions but many times he will “burn with passion” – 1 Corinthians 7:9, because his wife either refuses, makes excuses, or is simply indifferent to this strong driving need. To be honest I get so disturbed by Christian women that give excuses of why they cannot provide sexual intimacy for their husbands.
Over the years I have men tell me how extremely difficult this is for them and they even wonder why God created them with such strong sexual desires when they cannot be met legitimately with their Christian wife.
So, wives it is time to “fulfill your duty” and satisfy your husband. Stop making excuses; determine before the LORD God that you will intentionally meet his need. Be creative in your love making, release a few inhabitations, live “among the wildflowers” as the Shulammite woman said.
The Shulammite woman is speaking, “ Come, my love, let us go out to the fields and spend the night among the wildflowers [lodge in the villages KJV]. 12 Let us get up early and go to the vineyard … There I will give you my love” – Song of Songs 7:11-12 (NLT).
The Song of Solomon is not a picture of Jesus loving us; it is a graphic story of rapturous physical, emotional intimacy between a husband and wife. Enjoy the ride!
